Solutions provided for the salary issues of National Youth Corps Instructors! The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has provided solutions regarding the salary grievances of instructors serving on an hourly basis at the National Youth Corps (NYC).
In line with this, the Deputy Minister of Youth Affairs, Mr. Dinindu Saman Hennayaka, met with the said instructors yesterday (22nd) at the National Youth Corps Headquarters.
When these instructors were recruited to the National Youth Corps in 2016, they were provided a daily wage of Rs. 2,000 for a 5-hour service period per day. This amount had not been increased since then. Taking into account the current cost of living and the requests made by the instructors, the government has decided to increase this amount by two-thirds—an increment of Rs. 1,500—starting from this month. Accordingly, they will receive a daily allowance of Rs. 3,500 effective this month.
During the meeting, the Deputy Minister stated that by creating an environment where duties can be performed with mental satisfaction, he believes a more productive and quality service can be obtained. He further expressed confidence that this would better facilitate the current government's objective of creating a modern, empathetic youth suitable for the future.
The Deputy Minister further noted that while previous governments used to cut down on relief and salary increments for the people following situations like the "Dithwa" cyclone, the current government continues to provide relief to the public.
The Chairman of the National Youth Corps, Mr. Nalin Radampola; Director of the National Youth Corps, Mr. Gamini Wickramapala; Board Member of the National Youth Corps, Mr. Anjana Sampath Amarasinghe, along with other directors and officials, were present at the occasion.
